Undergraduate Research Experiences

Finding a Mentor pt 1

This week I selected three faculty members to meet with. Their research involves condensed matter and material science.  Although I did look through the research of other programs (High Energy, Beams, ect.), the research in condensed matter and material science was the most appealing. Perhaps I will pursue the material physics emphasis when I enroll for graduate school, but that is years away from now.

When meeting with the faculty members I hope to learn a bit more about them and their research. Furthermore, I want to find out who would be the best mentor for me and if they have any room for me on their team. Worries also come to mind along with this excitement, which is still just excitement according to a communications teacher.

I want to be able to work with my mentor, whoever I happen to choose, as well as their team if applicable. My knowledge of physics, as well as other subjects, is not likely at the same level as the faculty members’. I am still just a college freshman who has a lot to learn. I am not sure how the meetings will go, but I will always do the best I can.
